Avoid Punching Problems

Are your punches breaking, chipping or galling?

Check the following:

Is your punch secure in the coupling nut?
Are the punch and die aligned properly?
Is there proper clearance between punch and die? Die Clearance Calculator
Is the stripper in proper position?

Are your dies Damaged?

Check the following:

Are the punch and die aligned properly?
Is the die tightened with a set screw?
Do you have enough clearance between the punch and die? Die Clearance Calculator

Chipped or galling punch?
If your punch tips are chipping or galling here are a few things to look for:

If the punch is chipping at the tip, it is not aligned properly.

If your punch stem is keyed, order the proper keyway for your punch to lock the punch into position.

If you do not have a keyed punch stem, tighten the punch and die and jog the punch down into the die before placing the material to be punched.
