ILLINOIS HUMAN RIGHTS ACT
The Illinois Human Rights Act (IHRA) passed the Illinois General Assembly in 1979 and became
effective in 1980. This act prohibits unlawful discrimination in the areas of employment, real
estate transactions, financial credit and access to public accommodations. It also prohibits
sexual harassment of students in higher education.
